Visual Prayer: ONE WORD/ONE NAME PRAYER

Visual Prayer is an amazing tool that will help you stay focused as you pray. You don't need to be creative in order to practice Visual Prayer, so don't run off if you are worried about that.

All you need in order to do One Name/One Word is:

  1. A pen

  2. Index Cards (or The page I have provided below)

  3. Color Pencils

  4. A timer (optional)

The One Word/One Name Prayer is basically taking Secret Code and Stained Glass and Combining them. It's happened to all of us, when someone has asked us for prayer and we have every intention to pray but we forget until we see them again (UH-OH, I hate when that happens!). One Word/One Name Pray helps you to pray specifically for a person or a situation. As you write their name or the word, think about that person and begin to pray over them. Once you have written their name, choose their favorite colors, or colors that remind you of them, and divide the card into sections. In each section write down more specifically how you want to pray. Then color or doodle in each section as you pray for that specific thing. Make sure you date your prayers so you can look back on it!

Another great thing about this type of Visual Prayer is its a great way to SHARE with someone that you are praying for. You can snap a photo of it and send them a picture or pop it in the mail. What a great way to show someone that you are actually praying over them!

Again, remember the point is not to fill up the card, because you can always come back to it.... the goal is to spend 7-10 minutes in prayer....

YAY! CONGRATULATIONS! GREAT JOB! Now that you have completed the One Name/One Word Prayer, I'm eager for you to answer the following questions:

  • What did you notice while using the One Name/One Word Prayer?

  • Did you find praying this way helpful or unhelpful?

  • Did the 7-10 minutes go fast or slow?

  • How did the style of One Name/One Word shape your experience of praying?

I LOVE this style of visual prayer and I love the idea of gifting this prayer to someone so they know that they are being prayed for! WHAT A BLESSING! It allows me to really just STOP and lift the person that I'm praying for up to the Lord and it feels so good to do that. I could go on and on about this entire process of one word/one name but I wanna know what YOUR EXPERIENCE WAS! Maybe the One name/one word prayer wasn't your thing, I challenge you to try the other methods of visual prayer, you can find them linked below:

Keep praying sweet friends!
